Help AOK-CH Bring Water to Njoroi Village
Help AOK-CH Bring Water to Njoroi Village
While in Africa in 2022, we befriended and bonded with Deonidas Loserian, Deo for short. We have stayed in touch. Deo grew up in a village in Tanzania without easy access to water. He shared with us that he was able to raise funds and coordinate bringing water tanks to his village.
Recently Deo let us know that a remote village of more than 5000 people, Njoroi in the ward of Ololosokwan, has a really big water problem. The government dug a well, but it needs renovations to function. The government has now abandoned the well, which was about nine miles from the village homesteads. This has led to a lack of: clean, consumable water; water for cattle in the dry season; water for irrigating schools, trees, gardens, and water for other domestic uses. The villagers, especially women and children, travel almost two miles to fetch water from untreated wells. The water from these untreated wells is used for livestock and people. This has created significant issues from water-borne diseases. In addition, with global warming, having a consistent water supply also acts as a buffer against the increasing unpredictability of weather patterns. Lengthening periods of drought or unexpected dry spells can drastically affect the availability of water. In such scenarios, water tanks act as safety nets, providing much needed consistency in water supply.
AOK-CH plans to furnish Njoroi with three large water tanks in March/April 2025.
This will make a huge impact on the lives of over 5000 people. We plan to purchase the following and Deo will oversee the installation:
– three water tanks
– piping
– pumping machines
– solar panels, inverter, and battery
– brick, sand, gravel, wire, mesh, and cement for the tank platforms
– trucks to transport the tanks
The total cost for this project is $10,725. We would be grateful for your support and contribution.

A Lotta Love + PORCH
A Lotta Love is changing homeless lives one room at a time. The A Lotta Love team works to alleviate the trauma of homelessness by creating dignified, safe, and emotionally-inspired spaces within homeless shelters and crisis centers.
Last summer, we raised funds to sponsor and complete a make-over of two bedrooms and a bathroom at Families Moving Forward shelter in Durham. This is the family we welcomed home to their new space. Helping create this transformation and seeing the smiles on this family’s face was one of the most heart-warming experiences of our lives.
PORCH is a small, grassroots hunger relief organization that makes a big impact! Every month, Neighborhood Coordinators collect food and cash donations, and then volunteers sort and distribute bags of fresh and non-perishable food to local families, pantries, and schools.
The problem of hunger is real! About 12 percent of Orange County residents face food insecurity. One-fourth of Orange County children live in poor or low-income households. Sadly, with rising costs, more and more families are struggling to ensure there is food on the table each day. In 2021, PORCH provided 350,000+ pounds of fresh food directly to 500+ families and 8,668 bags of non-perishable food to pantries and families in Chapel Hill-Carrboro.
PORCH has been an important part of our family for years. Since 2015 we have been co-Neighborhood Coordinators for Southern Village with the Beisser Family.

What you do every day matters. Spread some joy with a donation to acts of kindness - chapel hill and know that your act of kindness is being multiplied into many. Together we can change the world, starting in our own little corner.
